Multiple futures await business in SA<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If the path to\nsuccess was a straight line, it would be a very crowded path. It isn\u2019t, of\ncourse. There are multiple possible future and multiple paths towards them, and\nthe steps a company takes now will determine which future it ends up in.<\/p>\n\n\n

Cura Risk\nManagement Software has already been in business for almost 20 years, which is\nan eminently respectable age for an SME in South Africa. It is banking on being\naround for a long time to come and with that in mind, is planning for the\nfutures. (Note to reader: this is not a typo.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere is not one\nset future but multiple possible futures; that\u2019s very important to grasp,\u201d says\nJessica Knight, head of Strategy. \u201cWhen you assess multiple possibilities, you\nenhance your preparedness for anything that might arise.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are just a\nfew examples of the different futures that might be awaiting the company. \u201cOne\nis where we achieve our Big Hairy Audacious Goal (BHAG) of establishing a\nsignificant presence on every continent. Another is where we never achieve\nthat. And another is where we no longer exist.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That last\npossibility is not an option any company wants to imagine (with the exception\nof fly-by-nights and other short-termist enterprises). But if you don\u2019t, your\ndays could be numbered. So while thinking about your organisation\u2019s demise\nmight not be pleasant, it\u2019s a prospect that can\u2019t be ignored if you still want\nto be around in 20, 50 or 100 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe are assessing\nall possibilities, doing risk assessments and learning from our clients and\nlistening to what they want,\u201d says Jessica. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those assessments\nand learnings are constantly fed into Cura\u2019s strategy document, which is a\nnever-ending work in progress that ensures the business stays true to its\nstrategic objects and moves ever closer to its BHAGs, while adapting to\nwhatever curve balls might come its way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Covid-19 is a\nprime example of such curve balls, of course, providing many useful lessons for\nCura to incorporate into its planning for the futures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
