Well, that ability is not as elusive as some\nmight think. It\u2019s called systemic thinking.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Events \u2013 problematic or otherwise\n\u2013 are hardly ever once-off phenomena. Chances are that an event looming on the\nhorizon now is not unique at all but has been seen before in some shape or form,\nsays Russel Berman, Sales and Marketing Director at Spark ATM Systems. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/sparkatm.co.za\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tt100.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/Spark-Logo-1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2071\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>And if you\u2019ve been paying\nattention and adopting a systemic approach, you\u2019ll know that the problem or\nevent is not an isolated one.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen you see an event, you create\na system to acknowledge, document and formalise it so you can see it coming\nagain,\u201d says Russel. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>Not only that, but you also need a\nlookout system. Spark\u2019s lookout system is its executive management committee\n(manco), which meets once a week, every week, to review each department\u2019s key\nperformance indicators (KPIs).<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a great opportunity for a\ncross-sectional view of all departments,\u201d Russel says. \u201cEach team leader presents\nthe KPIs for their department and everybody has the opportunity to comment and\ncross-pollinate good ideas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Managers don\u2019t just present their\nweekly performance statistics; they are also proactive. \u201cIt\u2019s a manco mindset\nfor each manager to come to the meeting with suggestions to do things more\nseamlessly and profitably. The idea is to take a view on all your metrics and\nturn the dial.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Far from finding weekly manco\nmeetings taxing, Spark managers thrive on them, he says. \u201cIt\u2019s lovely having\nyour finger on the pulse of the business. If you only have a review once a\nmonth, you are dealing with historical data but when you meet weekly, you can\nsee make decisions in real time for example a new high demand area may have\nbeen identified in the country requiring rapid ATM deployment opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;\u201cWe make profitability-based decisions through\nsharing the full income and expenses of the business with the entire team down\nto a very granular level.
