Others manage to get their ideas off the drawing board but take so\nlong or spend so much to implement them that the market moves on in the\nmeantime. A relatively rare few can translate a great idea into commercially\nviable reality, and to do so swiftly and inexpensively too.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sva-holdings.co.za\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.tt100.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/TT100-logo-_-2012-Phindulo-Litshani.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1668\" width=\"263\" height=\"170\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s clear to which category SVA Innovate belongs. Having\nbeen instrumental in incubating various patented \u2013 and profitable \u2013 risk\nmanagement and asset protection solutions for parent company SVA Holdings, moving\nideas off the drawing board and into clients\u2019 businesses is where it excels.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur job is to take the ideas and make them happen,\u201d says\nLee McFadyen, Group Technology Executive at SVA Innovate, adding that this\nisn\u2019t quite as simple as it sounds. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not always easy to interpret the business requirements\nand come up with a spec. You\u2019ve got to have a very good understanding of the\nclient\u2019s business and technology, and then convert the spec into the kind of\ntechnology jargon that young people (the developers) can understand.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Moving from idea to spec to solution involves much\nbrainstorming and consultation, using a whiteboard approach that explores the\nproblem and its proposed solution from all conceivable angles, from finance to\ndesign and testing.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Once a workable specification has emerged, it has handed\nover to the \u201cwhizz kids\u201d whom SVA Innovate handpicked for their technical\ningenuity and \u201cout-of-the-box\u201d thinking. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>This is how the company has managed to come up with market-disrupting\nrisk management and governance solutions like a retail stocktaking solution\nthat is 99% accurate in predicting stores\u2019 stock levels 24 months in advance. <\/p>\n\n\n<p>What\u2019s more, the idea-spec-solution process is constantly in\nprogress, with a steady stream of innovation projects at different stages of\nincubation and realisation at any given time.<\/p>\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou won\u2019t find us sitting on our laurels and expecting what\nwe did yesterday to be good enough for today,\u201d says Lee. \u201cWe always have at\nleast five products in the pipeline, all with the same ambition: How can we\ndisrupt the market?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s a hard act to follow \u2013 just ask the competition<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Winner of the Director-General Award for Overall Excellence for 2018, category for emerging enterprises Get that idea off the drawing board and into action Some people have brilliant ideas that sadly never come to anything.
