Agility is not necessarily a\nquestion of size, however. Rather, it\u2019s a matter of achieving that end-to-end\nseamlessness that is so talked about but so challenging to actually accomplish.\n<\/p>\n<!-- \/divi:paragraph -->\n<!-- divi:paragraph -->\n<p>\u201cEverything has to tie up. It\u2019s all those interconnected\nthings that feed into each other so that we can act fast and respond to\nclients\u2019 unforeseen needs,\u201d says Gavin Ratner, managing member of\nmulti-award-winning Air Blow Fans.<\/p>\n<!-- \/divi:paragraph -->\n<!-- divi:paragraph -->\n<p>The operative word here is \u201cunforeseen\u201d. There is no set\nformula for fixing the massive centrifugal and axial flow fans that mining\nhouses, power utilities and the like use to keep their plants running smoothly.\nEvery situation is different and every solution has to be approached on its own\nmerits, making those interconnected processes and systems all the more\nimportant.<\/p>\n<!-- \/divi:paragraph -->\n<!-- divi:paragraph -->\n<p>Technology is a big part of this, but so is the human element,\nsays Gavin. <\/p>\n<!-- \/divi:paragraph -->\n<!-- divi:paragraph -->\n<p>Most plants have remote monitoring systems so that pre-emptive\nmaintenance can be scheduled before there is a breakdown, but in practice,\nrelatively few companies do regular checks. So when their mission-critical fans\nstart vibrating more vigorously than they should, or some of the moving parts threaten\nto malfunction, Air Blow Fans will receive an emergency call.<\/p>\n<!-- \/divi:paragraph -->\n<!-- divi:paragraph -->\n<p>That often means racing off to the client\u2019s site for an\non-premises, eyes-on assessment, after which technology can take over. \u201cWe feed\nthe information from the site visit into a computational fluid dynamics package\nso that the computer can run different scenarios and devise a mechanical\nengineering solution that is reliable and fit for service,\u201d Gavin says. <\/p>\n<!-- \/divi:paragraph -->\n<!-- divi:paragraph -->\n<p>Next comes the design of the system, ordering of the\nmaterials, manufacture and installation of the equipment, underpinned by\nquality assurance. Air Blow Fans has ISO 9001 certification, which is unusual\nfor a small engineering company.<\/p>\n<!-- \/divi:paragraph -->\n<!-- divi:paragraph -->\n<p>Let\u2019s not forget the people management part. \u201cIn a small\ngroup like ours, we are all interdependent. While a big organisation can\ncompensate for one or two rotten apples, we cannot and it\u2019s really important to\nhave the right people working together for a common cause.\u201d<\/p>\n<!-- \/divi:paragraph -->\n<!-- divi:paragraph -->\n<p>With all the moving parts in synch, human and machine, it\u2019s\nall systems go and no spanners in the works.<\/p>\n<!-- \/divi:paragraph -->[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":1427,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[7],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-1407","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-2018-excellence-awards-article"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v24.4 -
